The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) Continuing Education Program presents…
Scientific Symposium on Workplace Lead – November 13, 2013
Lead in the Workplace – the New Science – A one-day scientific symposium and webinar moderated by John Howard, MD, Director of NIOSH
The Cal/OSHA lead standards are based on lead toxicity information that is now over 30 years old. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has recently made a recommendation to Cal/OSHA for a new Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) based on the low level health effects literature and pharmacokinetic modeling of the relationship between air lead levels and blood lead levels. For more information, see www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/olppp/Pages/LeadStdRecs.aspx.
This one-day scientific symposium will cover the current literature on health effects of low-level lead exposure and the newly released Cal/EPA report on physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling of the air lead/blood lead relationship. A CDPH representative will also present the basis for their recent health-based Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) recommendation to Cal/OSHA.
