SANTA ANA, OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE

RE: Business Emergency Response Team (BERT)
The Santa Ana Police Department recognizes the importance of public/private partnerships. Your company is an important partner with public safety first responders in the event of a man-made or natural disaster in our geographical area. As such, we are requesting your participation in the Business Emergency Response Team (BERT), which is specifically designed to increase the capabilities of your organization and increase communication and coordination with first responders prior to, during, and after a catastrophic event.
A systemic disruption caused by a catastrophic event may have dire consequences for organizations which have little or no preparation for such an event. Most emergency plans involve sending employees home and calling 911. Based on both national and international disasters in the recent past, it is clear that governmental public safety resources are rapidly depleted during such an incident. Does your organization have a plan beyond the traditional reliance on governmental emergency resources?
We are working closely with the business community to evolve this public/private partnership to answer several important questions our business community has raised: What can BERT provide to our business community? How can local businesses collaborate with public safety in the event of a catastrophe? How can the needs be quantified and how can they be facilitated in a platform that is not onerous to businesses and their program participants?
We look forward to your company joining the team of companies that have graduated from the BERT program and these include, but are not limited to, Waste Management, Inc., Abbott Medical Optics – AMO, Goodwill Industries, Crevier BMW, Temple Beth Sholom, Deloitte, Experian, National University, Waxie, Durham School Services and Ingram Micro. More information can be found at www.bertinc.org.

Your consideration in participating in this partnership is appreciated.
