Ellen Widess, the new Chief of California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), will be serving as the keynote speaker at the Southern California Joint Technical Symposium (JTS) on Oct. 19, in Long Beach, according to ASSE Orange County Chapter (American Society of Safety Engineers) President Scott Myles.
This will be Widess’ first opportunity to address such a large group of occupational health and safety professionls in Southern California, and it will be the ASSE’s first opportunity as a group to hear her vision for the agency.
According to Myles, “this will be especially important if the current move to eliminate the Cal/OSHA Standards Board and transfer standards-setting authority from the Standards Board over to DOSH comes to fruition. ”
Dr. Kate Hutton, the nationally renowned “Earthquake Lady” from CalTech, is also serving as a Keynote Speaker at the 2011 JTS.
